Seven compete for Minor position
OXFORD — The Jan. 11 special election to succeed the late Bill Minor as Mississippi’s northern district transportation commissioner has attracted seven candidates who each know something about transportation.
The question now is: Who is the best candidate to fill the remaining year of Minor’s term, and will the race boil down to another East vs. West Mississippi battle?
The U.S. Census Bureau’s 2009 estimate — 2010 figures are expected in February or March — shows DeSoto County as the most populous county in the northern district with 158,719 residents.
