Senator wants quicker, more open payments process
WASHINGTON — Republican Sen. Roger Wicker of Mississippi urged the administrator of the BP oil spill compensation fund Wednesday to speed up the claims process and provide more information about who’s eligible for payments.
Wicker called the meeting with Kenneth Feinberg, head of the Gulf Coast Claims Facility, after receiving complaints from Mississippians about slow payments and lack of fairness.
Feinberg is in charge of the $20 billion fund that BP agreed to finance to pay businesses and people hurt by the spill, which began in April after the Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded and sank in the Gulf of Mexico.
