Wicker – Earmark moratorium ‘important first step’

Earmark moratorium ‘important first step’

Senator Roger Wicker (R-Mississippi) thinks it is important for Congress to take a time-out.

“Clearly, the people have spoken loudly about their desire to clean up the out-of-control spending in Washington, DC — and I, for one, am listening,” he notes. “To me, banning earmarks is an important first step in demonstrating that we are serious about the debt and that we’re serious about runaway spending. This new Congress is committed to cutting spending and getting our fiscal house in order, and that means changing the way we do business in Washington, DC.”

Meanwhile, with the incoming House Republican majority set against the practice, earmarking defenders — mostly Democrats — on the other side of the capitol are swimming against a powerful tide.
