Jim Harbaugh wants fair share of football TV money

However the Pac-12 is grouped into football divisions this week, Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh said he hopes his school gets a better split of the conference’s TV money for football.

The revenue division now favors schools whose teams are on TV the most. But that system has also favored USC and UCLA because of the size of the Los Angeles market.

According to figures gathered by the San Jose Mercury News, based on total conference revenues for the 2007-08 and 2008-09 school years, Stanford was at the bottom of the pile, receiving $14.1 million for that two-year period. Cal was fourth at $17.5 million.

“Who cut that deal?” Harbaugh asked at his weekly news conference. “Hope we got a better negotiator in these meetings than the last (revenue-sharing talks). It should be an equitable split. That’s what being in a conference is all about.”
