Childers Recognized for Protecting American Manufacturers, Fighting for American Jobs
Earns NAM Award for Manufacturing Legislative Excellence
Washington, DC – The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), the nation’s largest industrial trade association, announced Congressman Travis Childers (MS-01) as the newest recipient of the NAM Award for Manufacturing Legislative Excellence for his outstanding voting record on behalf of America’s manufacturing community. Childers was one of only twelve Members of his party to receive the Award from NAM.
“During our nation’s ongoing economic recovery and in the face of an increasingly global economy, it’s absolutely essential that we protect American businesses and jobs,” said Childers. “That’s why I’m so honored to be recognized by the National Association of Manufacturers for my pro-business, pro-jobs record. I will keep fighting to support the competiveness of our nation’s manufacturers and bring jobs back to Mississippi.”
“The Award demonstrates lawmakers’ true understanding of manufacturing’s key role in our economy and their willingness to cast the critical votes that will boost competitiveness, job creation and prosperity for manufacturers,” said John Engler, NAM President and CEO. “The United States remains the world’s largest manufacturing economy, but manufacturing’s leadership is under fire, facing its toughest competition in the nation’s history. It is critical that our policymakers understand what is at stake and seek to implement policies that will foster innovation, growth and competitiveness.”
A letter from NAM is attached.
Eligibility for the award is based on how Members of Congress vote on key manufacturing issues, which the NAM outlines prior to floor action. Members of Congress who support the NAM’s position on at least 70% of those votes receive the award.
Rep. Childers’ proven record of supporting manufacturing initiatives includes the following:
Passed the Home Star Energy Retrofit Act.
