Judge OKs sale of four cemeteries
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — The secretary of state’s office says a judge has approved the sale of four cemeteries placed into receivership.
After approving bidders on the four cemeteries from an early August auction, Prentiss County Chancery Judge John Hatcher on Thursday ordered the sale to the successful bidders.
Prentiss Memorial Gardens in Baldwyn, Liberty Memorial Park in Booneville, Pinecrest Memorial Park in Pittsboro and Sunset Gardens Memorial Park in Laurel were placed under state control after an investigation revealed mismanagement in their operations.
“We are now taking the final steps towards our goal of placing these cemeteries back into private, credible ownership,” said Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann in a statement. “Hopefully, the state is out of the cemetery business in Laurel and North Mississippi.”
