NCAA scrutiny jeopardizes UT athletics director’s job

In the midst of an NCAA probe, Tennessee found itself in a Pearl jam Friday.
The school took a heavy-handed proactive stance toward basketball Coach Bruce Pearl and three assistant coaches.
They reduced Pearl’s contract by 25 percent over the life of the contract, which runs through June 30, 2015.
Assistants Tony Jones, Steve Forbes and Jason Shay also saw 25 percent of their contracts taken away. All four coaches are forbidden to recruit off campus; Pearl and Forbes for a year, Jones for nine months and Shay for three months.
