Clark: Community college funding stretched thin
Now the Legislature needs to step up to the plate and help a booming system that is stretched to its financial limit, Executive Director of the Community College Board Eric Clark told the Hattiesburg American editorial board Wednesday.
“Often folks in the community college system feel frustrated, because when the discussion in the state is on education, overwhelmingly that’s K-12,” Clark said. “Behind that is the university system and we kind of get lost in the shuffle.”
System-wide, preliminary figures show a 7.2 percent increase in enrollment this fall over 2009. That’s after a 14.3 percent increase from 2008 to 2009.
