“Everybody understands this offense has been playing together for a year, a year and a half now,” McElroy said. “We’re very comfortable with each other. We’re on the same page and we understand timing and the dynamics.
“The defense understands, and we all understand, that they’re just trying to learn. They’re trying to process as much as information as they can.”
Alabama’s defense endured devastating losses from last season’s national championship squad. The problems appear roughest in the secondary – of the six defensive backs who started in the title game against Texas, only safety Mark Barron will play for the Tide in 2010. Minor injuries have slowed the secondary so far and prompted Coach Nick Saban to shift young offensive players to defense.
