Clemens’ best option: Misremember his ego, plead guilty now
In the heart of the steroid era. Better than anyone was that season. Better than he ever was, in any season, in a career with 354 wins and 4,672 strikeouts.
At age 43.
Guilty.
That’s just circumstantial evidence, but when you add in a conversation teammate Andy Pettitte says he had with Clemens at that time — when Pettitte says that Clemens admitted to using HGH — it’s over. Clemens says Pettitte “misremembers” that conversation, which ranks right up there with cyclist Floyd Landis’ defense that his body had all that testosterone because he was simply more manly than the average person.
Landis eventually came clean and admitted what he had done, but by then it was too late. We knew, Floyd. We always knew. Get away from us.
