Childers-Nunnelee race among the country’s closest congressional contests
U.S. Rep. Travis Childers formally kicked off his re-election campaign recently and began airing TV ads, but the race in Mississippi’s 1st Congressional District has been heated for months as Republicans consider the Democrat among the country’s most vulnerable House incumbents.
GOP challenger Alan Nunnelee – who won his party’s nomination in June – has been running hard against Childers by tying him with President Obama and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi – two liberals unpopular in Mississippi.
“People are frustrated with the way Washington is operating and they are looking for a congressman who will represent their conservative Mississippi values and hold Obama and Nancy Pelosi accountable,” Nunnelee said.
