Jere Nash – Lt. Governor’s Campaign “contentious”
Right up under the political radar screen in Mississippi is the increasingly contentious Lt. Governor’s campaign. Assuming the current field stays put – Billy Hewes, Tate Reeves, and Stacey Pickering – the election promises to deliver all sorts of intra-party intrigue. The state party apparatus is now sufficiently large and sufficiently seasoned that it can harbor a number of different factions. And they are all picking sides in this campaign. For example, last week Tate Reeves mailed out invitations to his Jackson fundraiser. A local blog, Jackson Jambalaya, posted a copy of the invitation on its website (link below). In an unusual show of public support, several major firms and businesses are listed as hosts, as are some major lobbyists – Butler Snow, Baker Donelson, Adams & Reese, BancorpSouth, BankPlus, Renasant Bank, State Bank & Trust, Beth Clay, Clifford Thompson, Al Sage, and Buddy Medlin. About the same time, Billy Hewes held a meet-and-greet reception in Rankin County, with more than 100 activists attending (a big deal in the single most important county in a Republican primary). Lots of action to look forward to in this election.
