WLBT – Mississippians weigh in on Arizona lawsuit
The executive director of the Mississippi Immigrants Rights Alliance or MIRA, applauds the government’s lawsuit.
“Arizona is not new to this anymore than Mississippi is new to racism and that bill is founded in racism. The bill is written by an attorney for a group that the southern poverty law center has identified as a hate group and the bill there is one of five bills that have been passed that target, in one way or another, people of color,” said Bill Chandler.
“Well, when they can’t fight facts from people who are opposing the federal laws that now exist, that should take care of illegal immigration that should say we’re going to secure our borders and those people that oppose that usually try to resort to terms like racism, xenophobia, all those types of things that have been used for so long for those of us that simply believe that we are a nation of laws rather than men and we have to enforce those laws,” said Lt. Governor Phil Bryant.
The U.S. government wants an injunction to delay the implementation of the Arizona law later this month until the case is resolved.
