‘BAMA, FLORIDA ADDING TO SEC STATUARY

Outside of Alabama’s Bryant-Denny Stadium, there are statues of the Crimson Tide head football coaches — Wallace Wade, Frank Thomas, Bear Bryant, Gene Stallings — who won national championships.

Current coach Nick Saban of the defending national champs gets his $50,000 bronze statue unveiled in mid-August. It’s a good bet the statue will be lifelike, which means the hair will be perfect and the face won’t be smiling.

Now, Florida is somewhat following suit, by erecting bronze statues of its three Heisman Trophy winners — quarterbacks Steve Spurrier, Danny Wuerffel and Tim Tebow.
