DC Vote to protest Childers again
DC Vote is organizing a second protest on Capitol Hill targeting Childers, one of the Blue Dog Democrats who has led the charge to wipe the District’s gun laws off the books. The annual effort, usually championed by Republicans and recently revived by Sen. Jon Tester (D-Mont.) and Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), has long grated on local officials and is blamed for the failure of legislation that would grant the District a voting seat in the House of Representatives.
According to a press release, DC Vote will stand outside the Capitol South Metro station on Wednesday from 8-9:30 a.m, handing out ads to staffers asking why Childers seems to intent on legislating for the District. More to the point, the release says, they will ask whether Childers should just up and change his residency to the District and jump into the ongoing mayoral contest.
Earlier this month, DC Vote had residents file into Childers’ office to complain of his interference in local affairs, part of a new and aggressive campaign to go after members of Congress that trample on Home Rule.
