State’s top Democrats getting together for Childers

TUPELO – Friends of U.S. Rep. Travis Childers of Booneville aren’t sitting on their hands while his GOP opponent, Alan Nunnelee of Tupelo, works his way around the 1st District.

Childers’ supporters have planned a fundraiser Monday from 5-6:30 p.m. at The Summit Center in Tupelo.

Other Childers supporters are invited.

“Please mark your calendar and plan to join us for a fundraising event in support of Travis’ re-election campaign,” an Internet invitation notes.

Host committee members read like a Who’s Who of Mississippi Democrats:

U.S. Rep. Gene Taylor, Attorney General Jim Hood, Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley, state Sens. Hob Bryan, Bill Stone, J.P. Wilemon, Eric Powell, Bennie Turner and state Reps. Mark DuVall, David Gibbs, Warner McBride, Tommy Reynolds, Greg Ward, Donnie Bell, Jack Gadd, Steve Holland, Jimmy Puckett and Preston E. Sullivan.
