The Travis Childers Non-Campaign Campaign In Full Effect
The New York Times had an interesting story this morning looking at the lack of town halls being hosted by Democratic lawmakers during their recess even as most begin their re-election campaign. With the images of last summer’s town halls still fresh in the mind of many (especially the politicians), many have chosen to go with more comfortable settings where they control the crowd and the topic.
At the advice of party leaders, the vast majority of Democrats opted to tour businesses (especially ones that have benefited from stimulus funds) or participate in some type of community service project, for example. In these instances, the Congressman keeps his name in the headlines, but doesn’t have to face a potentially hostile crowd. Another option that is becoming a favorite is the tele-town hall. This has been the preferred method of Rep. Travis Childers in the past.
