Pomeranz, too, seems likely to forego college ball next season in exchange for a lucrative payday. The No. 5 pick in last year’s draft, high school pitcher Matt Hobgood, received a signing bonus of $2.4 million.
Pomeranz was a 12th-round pick as high school senior in 2007 before choosing to attend Ole Miss. He compiled a 21-9 record over his three seasons in Oxford, tying for the ninth-most pitching victories in a school history.
