Oil reaches Petit Bois Island, Barbour says
Barbour said at 9:15 a.m., a strand of caramel-colored oil was spotted at the western end of Petit Bois, the last barrier island to the east near the Mississippi-Alabama border.
He said the strand of oil was only about a meter wide, but it was about two miles long.
“Our belief is that it’s probably broke off a patch south of Horn Island on Sunday and it has been marked with buoys by the Coast Guard late Sunday and we believe the main parts of those patches are three to five miles south of Dauphin Island, Ala.,” Barbour said.
