Advocates of state sovereignty would do states a favor by not giving the federal government the boot just yet.
At least not until local communities are sure that new flood maps being drawn by the Federal Emergency Management Agency are correct.
Republican Sen. Thad Cochran has the right idea in Mississippi, where he is urging federal agencies to work more closely with communities to upgrade maps that predict which areas will be under water in the next flood.
