LeBron James’ playoff exit creates ripple effect in ticket sales
Christian Anderson of FanSnap says average resale ticket prices for Orlando’s home games were down to $204 from $275 from a year ago against James’s Cavs in the conference finals.
For Tuesday’s Game 2, tickets were available for as low as $60, Anderson says.
A so-called LeBron recession, meanwhile, could begin this summer in Cleveland if the most sought-after free agent decides to depart his home state for the Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks, New Jersey Nets or elsewhere.
A superstar such as James drives a club’s bottom line. The value of the Cavaliers franchise could plummet $100 million to $376 million if James leaves, according to Forbes’ Michael Ozanian. Cavs owner Daniel Gilbert bought the club for $375 million in 2005.
