GOVERNOR BARBOUR ANNOUNCES PUBLIC ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE FOR ADDITIONAL COUNTIES
Jackson, Mississippi – Governor Haley Barbour today announced Public Assistance will be available for local governments in Warren, Issaquena and Monroe counties to aid recovery efforts from the severe storms of April 24. The Federal Emergency Management Agency notified Governor Barbour of their decision today.
“I am pleased FEMA has approved help for local governments who will have to rebuild infrastructure and remove large amounts of debris,” Governor Barbour said. “This will diffuse some of the strain on communities and speed the process of recovery.”
The announcement means Public Assistance is available in Attala, Choctaw, Holmes, Issaquena, Monroe, Warren and Yazoo counties. Public Assistance makes these counties eligible to receive federal funding for emergency protective measures required following the storms. This may include eligible debris removal costs and the repair of infrastructure.
All counties that qualify for Individual Assistance have been approved, which include Oktibbeha, Monroe, Union, Attala, Choctaw, Holmes, Warren and Yazoo counties. Individual Assistance programs available to families and individuals will include the Individuals and Households Program, Disaster Unemployment Assistance, Crisis Counseling, Disaster Legal Services, the Disaster Food Stamp Program and Small Business Administration loans.
