DeSoto Times covers MS-01 debate

SOUTHAVEN – Less taxes, more immigration control and limited terms in government were among the topics discussed at Tuesday’s forum held inside the DeSoto Central High School gym.

Four of the 11 candidates vying for Mississippi’s First Congressional District seat answered questions posed to them which were drawn at random from members of the audience, mostly made up of seniors and members of the Tea Party of Mississippi which sponsored the event.

Mike Crook of Ridgeland, former Madison County Chancery Clerk and Ridgeland alderman, acted as moderator.

Former Eupora Mayor Henry Ross, a Republican, said he wanted to “restore the pillars of faith, family and freedom” to the nation and he decried the effect of the recent health care legislation passed by Congress as “Obamacare.”

He echoed the independent theme which ran throughout the two-hour forum.

“The career politicians, Republican and Democrat, have gotten us to where we are today,” Ross said.
