Business the topic of governors’ meeting
BILOXI — Governors from six states and premiers from seven Canadian provinces came to Biloxi this week to do business and build relationships.
“Canada is our biggest trade partner,” Gov. Haley Barbour said Monday during the 3rd annual Southeastern United States – Canadian Provinces Alliance at the Beau Rivage Resort. Most of our country’s energy is imported not from Saudi Arabia but from Canada, he said. Fifty Canadian companies operate in Mississippi, including the newest, which will make fuel from municipal waste.
Fox News anchor and Mississippi native Shepard Smith moderated a Monday morning roundtable on green-energy jobs, the recession and the relationship between the countries. That relationship is asymmetrical, said Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen. He suggested more people from the United States should go to Canada and learn how business is done there.
