Childers has got to go

Michael Zubick || The Daily Mississippian
The Mississippi 1st Congressional District race could be north Mississippi’s first chance to make a statement about health care reform, regardless of how you feel on the matter.

Representative Travis Childers, the Democrat incumbent, will find out his opponent after the Republican Party primary is decided between Alan Nunnelee of Tupelo, Angela McGlowan of Oxford, and Henry Ross, former mayor of Eupora.

McGlowan is the first black woman to run for Congress in the First District since Reconstruction.

Nunnelee raised over $500,000 dollars in his first six months running, and Ross vows on his Web site “to fight to restore the pillars of faith, family and freedom on which the founders established this nation.”

All three bring their own level of conservatism to the table. All three have their own unique values, strong points and unfortunately, moments of draconian thought.

In other words, for Republicans, it will be a tough battle.
