CL – Medicaid fight is brewing

Medicaid fight is brewing

After Mississippi Medicaid providers were notified this week that a cut is on the way, leading House lawmakers said they would attempt to take $14.6 million in reserve funds to stave off a reimbursement reduction.

“It will keep our program where our beneficiaries are getting their normal medical treatment,” said House Health and Human Services Committee Chairman Steve Holland, D-Plantersville.

But Senate Appropriation Chairman Alan Nunnelee said it’s time to move beyond the 2010 budget and focus on 2011.

“The priority of the Senate and House in 2010 was public education,” said Nunnelee, R-Tupelo. “We’ve closed the book on 2010, and we’re not reopening it.”
