Special circuit judge to step down

After handling thousands of pleas and other cases in Hinds County, special Circuit Judge L. Breland Hilburn will end his service to the county this month.

Last year, Hilburn handled 1,121 cases, including 484 guilty pleas, 149 orders revoking probation, 79 orders dismissing cases and signing 165 orders in which cases were not prosecuted.

He conducted two trials.

“We moved a lot of cases,” Hilburn said.

But Hilburn said it was others also working that helped move cases.

“I certainly hope it will continue,” Hilburn said.
