Auburn’s wooing of Tubby Smith shows it’s serious about basketball

Whether Auburn can get Tubby Smith’s name on the dotted line is open for debate. On Monday, Smith was doing what all coaches do when mentioned for another job: They deny it.

What’s been interesting is the reaction from some Alabama fans. This is the very same fan base that chewed on the Tubby Smith bone last winter after Mark Gottfried left and seemed to savor the possibility. Now that Auburn is considering the same route, the attacks on Smith have come early and often.
