It didn’t take long for the LSU baseball team to climb back into the same spot it finished the 2009 season.
After starting the season ranked second in three of the four polls, the Tigers moved up a notch to No. 1 in two of the four Monday after a season-opening weekend sweep of Centenary at Alex Box Stadium.
LSU is No. 1 in the Collegiate Baseball rankings, as well as the poll generated by the National Collegiate Baseball Association — the college baseball version of the Associated Press poll.
“We’re very pleased to receive this type of recognition, and I think being ranked No. 1 is certainly an inspiration to our players,” LSU coach Paul Mainieri said in a statement from the school. “We definitely aspire to play at a level that allows us to receive a top ranking.”
The Tigers crept from third to No. 2 in the Baseball America poll. The USA Today/ESPN rankings will be updated later this week.
