Saints are America’s team Sunday
It is foreboding what the Saints confront. The Colts are favored to win Sunday’s football game down here for logical reasons.
The weight of Super Bowls tends to crush the uninitiated. NFL history swears it. First-timers facing teams that have been here before have a 4-15 record on this stage.
And this time the team with that evidently crucial experience also happens to possess Peyton Manning, who (the story line goes) will officially and ceremonially ascend to his reserved place as The Greatest Quarterback of All-Time by leading his Colts to their expected victory.
One problem with all that cold logic.
Football is an emotional game. And no team has carried more emotion into this — not one in 44 years of Super Bowls — than the Saints.
