Mississippi Legislature Passes Two Bills in First Day of Session
Mississippi Lawmakers began the 2010 legislative session by passing two bills in both houses in the first day. As MPB’s Carl Gibson reports, both bills are now already awaiting the signature of Governor Haley Barbour.
The legislature approved a tax incentives package for a German pipe manufacturing company, as well as a bill that would continue the funding of the state’s community and junior colleges. House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Percy Watson, of Hattiesburg, says debate over the incentives package was brief.
“These are typical questions that are raised by members when we consider any economic development project. Whether or not it’s a loan, or a grant, whether or not it’s a donation, a guarantee.”
