SH – Sheriff deputies should have radar guns to stop speeding

Yet again, legislation has been introduced to permit sheriff’s deputies in Mississippi to use radar to curb speeding on roads and streets in unincorporated areas.
Rep. Jessica Upshaw of Diamondhead and Sen. Billy Hudson of Purvis have put forward bills in their respective chambers to allow the use of radar in all 82 counties.
Aiming a little lower, Rep. Hank Zuber of Ocean Springs would like the Legislature to put radar in the hands of Jackson County deputies on a trial basis, and Sen. David Blount of Hinds County would like his colleagues to permit radar in counties that had “a population of 200,000 or more” in the 2000 Census, a definition that fits only Hinds County.
But this problem is statewide, and trying to slowly solve it on a county-by-county basis will cost lives.
