Lawmaker sets hearing on security breach

he high-ranking Democrat from Bolton said he wants to hear what steps the federal government is taking to “progressively move forward.”

What that means for passengers still is up in the air. The U.S. Transportation Security Administration increased security measures immediately following the incident, and individual airlines took measures of their own, sometimes in excess of TSA’s requirements.

Thompson, Mississippi’s 2nd District congressman, said Wednesday that new air security rules implemented in the wake of recent terror scares must work, but not at the expense of law-abiding passengers.

“The goal is to keep the (suspect) from getting on the plane, not to punish the traveling public who paid to get on the plane to get from one point to another,” he said.
