Lackey retirement likely to set up judicial scramble
Longtime Circuit Judge Henry Lackey of Calhoun City reportedly will not run again in statewide judicial elections in 2010.
The Oxford Eagle reported last week that Lackey’s retirement has set off a shuffle among the Circuit District 3’s three judicial seats.
One is for candidates throughout the district of Tippah, Benton, Marshall, Union, Lafayette, Calhoun and Chickasaw counties, while the other two require a candidate to live within a northern or southern jurisdiction called a Place.
Lackey, who has been recovering from heart surgery, was unavailable for comment last week.
Lackey holds the southern seat. Judge Andrew Howorth of Oxford, in the at-large seat, may prefer running in the smaller area of just Lafayette, Union and Calhoun counties.
