Policy would ease college transfers

The state College Board is expected to review in February the policy that will create an improved transfer system that more clearly identifies classes that qualify for university credit.

“The purpose is to communicate to freshmen and sophomores the expectations that universities have,” Higher Education Commissioner Hank Bounds said. “We don’t want any student to lose a single (credit) hour.”

Citing complaints from students and parents, lawmakers have threatened to craft legislation in the upcoming session that would ease the transition from Mississippi’s public two-year schools to four-year schools, if no policy is carried out.
