Cochran to meet with president on Afghanistan
The president will deliver a speech to the nation tonight on his plans to increase troop levels to support the war, which Cochran said is “getting more and more unpopular as time goes on.’’
Cochran, the top Republican on the Senate Appropriations Committee, is scheduled to join Senate leaders and other key lawmakers at the White House for a meeting Tuesday with Obama to discuss the administration’s strategy in Afghanistan.
In his speech, to be delivered at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., Obama is expected to announce he will raise troop levels from roughly 68,000 to more than 100,000.
