Tide’s Mark Ingram has Heisman edge if it’s a numbers race

If his name wasn’t Tim Tebow, would the starting quarterback at the University of Florida really be a Heisman Trophy candidate this year?
There certainly are quarterbacks with better numbers. Tebow ranks 46th in the country in total offense; 93rd in passing; 71st in passing yards per game.
In fact, on a purely passing basis, the stats of Tebow and Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy are almost identical: Tebow has completed 64.6 percent of his passes for 1,730 yards, 12 touchdowns and has had four interceptions; McElroy has completed 60.2 percent for 1,913 yards, 13 touchdowns and has four interceptions.
