CA – Nunnelee, GOP take aim at Childers
OXFORD — The 2010 congressional elections are more than a year away, but the 1st District race in Mississippi has begun in earnest with state Sen. Alan Nunnelee, R-Tupelo, raising the level of rhetoric as fast as money flows into his campaign and that of incumbent Democrat Travis Childers.
Childers, who is trying to retain the U.S. House seat he won last year in a special election to replace now-U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker, has a more than 3-to-1 edge in fundraising over Nunnelee, according to third-quarter reports filed with the Federal Election Commission.
The report shows Childers raising $713,106 with $507,221 cash on hand and Nunnelee generating $220,454, and $181,163 cash on hand, as of Sept. 30.
