For a football team and fan base so hungry for redemption, the last eight months haven’t exactly flown by.

Sure, there’s been a hugely successful recruiting season, spring football and a national championship on the baseball diamond to fill the time.

But nothing gets the football juices flowing like the start of a new season.

Now, a new season is here, and the anticipation hanging in the Baton Rouge air is as thick as the late-August humidity.

For 243 days since a blowout bowl victory over Georgia Tech in Atlanta, this week has been the target for those players, coaches and fans.

Finally, it’s game week for LSU again, and the road to redemption officially starts in five days when the 11th-ranked Tigers set out on their longest road regular-season trip of the modern era to square off with Washington at 9:30 p.m. Saturday at Husky Stadium
in Seattle.

This week will be anything but routine for LSU, but it begins a 13- or 14-week march through the regular season.

Tigers coach Les Miles opens his fifth season with his weekly media luncheon today. Now dubbed “Lunch with Les,” the weekly luncheon can be heard at 12:10 p.m. on 107.3-FM in the Baton Rouge area and in the Geaux Zone on www.LSUsports.net.
