SALTER – MUW name change will run complex political gantlet

MUW name change will run complex political gantlet

Clearly, changing the name of one of the state’s eight universities – one with a famously loyal and politically active group of alumni – is likely not how Bounds would have scripted his first year in the commissioner’s post.

Limbert’s fractious relationship with a vocal segment of MUW’s alumni base is one in which she enjoyed strong support from former Commissioner Tom Meredith. With Limbert perceived to be “all in” from an administrative standpoint over the name change, Limbert’s opponents among MUW alums will try with all their might to kill the name change and make it a referendum on Limbert’s leadership of the school.

The Mississippi Legislature must also approve of changing the name from MUW to Reneau University.
