OB hospital effort could take time

The steps are in motion for a new Olive Branch hospital now that the path has been cleared by the Mississipi Board of Health, Sen. Merle Flowers, R-Olive Branch said Tuesday.

However, the process could ultimately take up to 18 months before ground is broken on the hospital, if challenges are made to Methodist’s application for a certificate of need, Flowers told members of the Olive Branch Rotary Club.

“We’re on the 5-yard line, it’s first down and we’re about to score,” Flowers said.

The Mississippi Board of Health voted 5-3 on July 8 to change the Certificate of Need process to permit counties with a population of more than 140,000 to have a second hospital.
