Up-and-coming redshirt freshman Pierce could be surprise at WR

HATTIESBURG — DeAndre Brown’s freshman season was arguably the most successful a Southern Miss receiver has pieced together.
But as Brown works his way back from a broken leg incurred in the New Orleans Bowl, another freshman appears poised to make a significant impact in Hattiesburg this fall.
After redshirting last season, Quentin Pierce became one of quarterback Austin Davis’ favorite targets during spring drills. He often put on a clinic in making defenders miss during practices, and had a 31-yard touchdown reception in the spring game.
