Sure, Tiger Woods is ranked
No. 1 in the world, a place he’s held seemingly since Nixon was in the Oval Office.
And sure, Woods is the rock star of the sport, the man who moves the needle in the TV ratings and has made millionaires out of some of his peers by raising the tournament purses.
But this is Phil Mickelson territory and has been since he unknowingly staked his claim as New York’s adopted son at the 2002 U.S. Open at Bethpage.
