Leftovers from Melton regime facing council
Two legal issues involving the late Mayor Frank Melton, a living wage ordinance, a $1.2 million bailout for JATRAN and a new JATRAN management contract.
All are on the agenda today as the Jackson City Council closes in on closing out its term. The term ends July 6, when Mayor-elect Harvey Johnson Jr. and two new council members take office.
“We’re just trying to clean up our shop here before the next administration,” said Councilwoman Margaret Barrett-Simon, who will remain on the council.
Perhaps the most politically charged issue is how to handle Melton’s legal issues.
