BCS cable connection complete as ESPN lands Rose Bowl
ESPN completed the shift of the major bowl picture to cable television by announcing on Friday that it has added the Rose Bowl to the Bowl Championship Series package agreed to last fall.
The cable network will begin carrying college football’s “Granddaddy of Them All” in January 2011. ESPN’s corporate partner ABC has been the game’s TV home since 1989.
“Given our acquisition of the other (BCS) games, it only makes sense to put the Rose Bowl alongside those games and let them each benefit from an integrated approach,” Burke Magnus, senior vice president of college sports programming, told USA TODAY.
He says the move will provide viewers with a “unified approach” to postseason college football.
