Wind coverage isn’t flying in Washington

Barack Obama, who is presiding over a $800 billion federal stimulus plan and the largest deficit in history, is not necessarily known for frugality.

Yet even the Democratic president realizes that it would be financially foolhardy to add wind coverage to the federal flood insurance program.

The Obama administration’s stand is a setback to Mississippi Congressman Gene Taylor, a victim of Hurricane Katrina who has been pushing unsuccessfully for the so-called “multiple peril coverage” since that 2005 natural disaster.
