Southern Miss junior Scott Copeland was pitching in relief in the sixth inning on Sunday. The Golden Eagles, needing a victory to advance to the College World Series, trailed host Florida 6-4.
USM coach Corky Palmer lumbered out to the mound. “Scott, you ever see that Kevin Costner movie For Love of the Game?” Palmer asked.
Copeland nodded yes.
“You remember what Costner kept saying to help himself focus when he was pitching?” Palmer asked.
