U.S. Representative Gregg Harper (R – Miss.), joined by his 19-year-old son, Livingston, made the following remarks today after a ceremony was held to unveil the statue of President Ronald Reagan in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda.
“Ronald Reagan was a statesman whose character and legacy of service to his country will long outlast the eight years of his presidency,” said Congressman Gregg Harper. “Today we honor President Reagan’s lifetime of leadership. President Reagan brought conservative ideas to Washington giving us confidence and hope. This statue will be a constant reminder of that hope as we continue to our ‘rendezvous with destiny.”
The Congressional Tribute began at 11:00 a.m. and featured remarks by The Speaker of the House, Representative Nancy Pelosi of California, Republican Leader, Representative John Boehner of Ohio, and Senate Majority Leader, Senator Harry Reid of Nevada. Comments were concluded by Mrs. Nancy Reagan, who had the privilege of unveiling the bronze statue by artist Chas Fagan.
