Budget failure ignites anger in Jackson
Tempers grew short Tuesday as the Mississippi House and Senate failed to agree on a budget to fund state government for the 2010 fiscal year that begins July 1.
Legislators returned to the Capitol for the 90th — and what is normally the final — day of the legislative session that began Jan. 6, but they could find little common ground on crafting a new state budget of about $5 billion.
“I think it’s a travesty on behalf of the taxpayers of Mississippi,” House Speaker Billy McCoy, D-Rienzi, fumed after the House adjourned for the day.
