Mississippi AG wants to block access to settlement
Attorney General Jim Hood wants to block public access to a settlement agreement his office reached with an insurance company in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
It’s the same settlement Hood’s office said didn’t exist.
The settlement was reached in February 2008 after State Farm and Casualty Co. sued Hood.
The issue came up again earlier this month when a political Web site, Y’allPolitics.com, and several television stations filed motions urging the court to make the agreement public.
Hood said the reasons the “testimony and settlement agreement were sealed are equally applicable now.”
Jan Schaefer, Hood’s spokeswoman, would not comment on why she and Hood previously said the case was thrown out and there was no settlement.
